About Beth Ritchie Photography

About Me
Thank you for your interest in my photography! I’m an on-location natural light photographer located in the Omaha, Nebraska metro area.

I enjoy photographing kids in a relaxed setting, and strive to provide a balance of traditional portraits mixed with some lifestyle shots that show kids just being themselves.

About Your Session
I shoot in natural light, and prefer to shoot during morning or evening to get the nicest light. Locations can be in your own backyard, a park, or urban location, depending on what setting you like best. Typical child and family sessions last about an hour, where we’ll walk around and get some giggles and smiles for natural smiles and expressions.

During Your Session
Child and family sessions are generally an hour long, newborns can run 3-4 hours.  Some children are all smiles and love the camera but many take a little while to warm up, so we’ll play it by ear and be as goofy as needed to get things going. Newborn sessions offer plenty of time for feeding breaks and clean up in between backdrops. It’s not unusual for it to take some time at the beginning of your session to get your newborn comfortable and sleepy enough to relax and be poseable.

Following Your Session
After your session, I will upload your custom edited proofs to a password-protected online gallery, which you are welcome to share with family and friends. Your gallery will be available for two weeks. Additional time may be purchased for $20 per 7 days of hosting. Orders may be placed using the online shopping cart or by contacting me directly. Once your order is placed, it will take about two weeks for prints to be delivered, and 3-4 weeks for specialty items such as albums or canvas.

What To Bring
Please bring any special items that you would like included.  It might be a favorite teddy bear or truck, and while you may not want it in every image, it’s fun to capture the memory of that treasured toy.  Hats, umbrellas, rain boots, tutus, even those princess pjs she insists on wearing every night can be fun. If your session is away from your home, make sure to bring snacks and something to drink for the little ones. Full disclosure: I’m not adverse to bribery, typically in the form of smarties candy! Sometimes kids need a little encouragement…

What to Wear
I recommend casual outfits with no big words logos. Colorful items can really make a photo pop, and adding layers can give you several different looks from a single session. For siblings or family photos I strongly recommend coordinating, but not matching clothing. If you are torn on what to wear, feel free to contact me before your session for some ideas and inspiration.

If your child is sick, please call to reschedule.   Outdoor sessions can also be rescheduled during severe weather. If it’s looking questionable I’ll make contact in advance to create a contingency plan and we’ll play it by ear.

Creative Ownership
It is important for me to communicate the ethical aspects of photography. I am sure you can appreciate the fact that your images are custom designed for you. A great deal of time, attention to detail, and thought goes into creating them. Per copyright law, the photographer retains the creative rights to all photos unless otherwise stated in writing. For this reason, unless written permission is provided by the photographer, it is illegal to reproduce these photos. Reproduction would include: scanning or taking screenshots of them, using them for cards and announcements, or commercially selling them for your own profit. Digital files are available for purchase and you may be provided with watermarked web-sized images for social networking sites, but please be respectful of the federal copyright ownership laws.
